Asking Alexandria with Shawn Milke - Stand Up And Scream [2009] [Album] [V0]

Once upon a time, there was a small boarding school. At this boarding school, there was an innocent girl, who went by the name of The Devil Wears Prada, a devout, albeit naive and simple, girl. She was a happy girl, and fairly popular, despite the fact that she was not maturing like her friend August Burns Red, who was quickly growing up without her.

She decided to go outside into the nearby forest, to frolick and such. While frolicking, she saw a shadow. She started to panic, but when BrokeNCYDE came into the light, she calmed down. BrokeNCYDE was a special boy, and was never seen without his helmet. The Devil Wears Prada said hello, and BrokeNCYDE walked over. He then grabbed her, throwing off his helmet. She then realized he was not challenged, but evil incarnate. He ripped off her clothes and forced himself upon her (think Last House on the Left.) He beat, raped, and left her for dead. Luckily, she was found and rushed to the hospital. While being treated, she found out she was pregnant. She decided to keep the baby, as we all know her beliefs on abortion. Nine months passed and the abomination known as Asking Alexandria was born.

Asking Alexandria was put up for adoption and raised in Britain. She was very stupid and prone to outbursts of senseless rage. She also had an odd obsession to dance beats. All thirteen years of her tragic life have been chronicled in the biography Stand Up and Scream. As you listen, you realize that many similar stories have been told, over and over. An angry and immature child continually acting out, all while yelling simple and annoyingly stupid phrases at (more than likely) people that don't exist.

Sometimes during her fits of rages she will delve into a Tourettes-like dance. She will scream or yell over this dance, and it seems unnatural and forced, almost as if it is involuntary. Asking Alexandria is doing the same thing, over and over, tiring everyone in earshot.

Asking Alexandria never matures, or does anything overly interesting. She bludgeons you with stupidity and immaturity for over 45 minutes, until thankfully she is murdered by a kind man named mercy.

Immersion's lead single "Watercolour" heralds a glorious evolution in the Pendulum sound. Now utilising a richer sonic tapestry than ever before, Watercolour" finds Rob Swire's vocals alternating between eerie distortion and full-blooded energy amidst flourishes of horns and an atmospheric, tension building breakdown. The track's progressive structure highlight's Pendulum's continuing development in constructing contrasting dynamics.

Netsky - Netsky [2010] [320kbps] [Album]

Hailing from a small town in Belgium, Netsky is one of the most promising upcoming producers of the moment. In the last 4 years involved in music production, he realised that he likes his drum & bass deep and soulful. He is trying to ballance the deepness and musicality of his sound with big enough beats and bass to keep the dancefloor alive. With a number of 12"s on Hype's Liqweed Ganja and Twisted Individual's Allsorts in the pipeline, he is definately one to keep an eye on.

Rusko - O.M.G.! [2010] [320kbps] [ALBUM]

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Rusko has made a name for himself in the dubstep world by introducing a focus on mid-range wobble over sub-bass tremor. O.M.G. is only his first full-length, despite his presence on the scene for several years. For the album Rusko has broadened his sound to include other electro styles like disco, house, and garage. He has also included a puzzling array of guests, including Amber Coffman of the Dirty Projectors, Italian dance duo Crookers, and Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane.

Like all genres, dance music moves in phases. The sound of the moment is dubstep, a brutal British movement led by faceless blokes with names like Caspa and The Bug, and characterized by wobbling basslines that hum like a moving lightsaber. It’s a menacing sound, an oscillating drone that pounds you into submission.

The U.K. beatsmith Rusko is a titan of the genre, having broken through with the 2008 single “Cockney Thug,” which piled syncopated drums atop that furious drone, punctuating the whole thing with shrill whistles that might as well have been criss-crossing bottle rockets. At one point the whole song stopped, and a British-accented voice blurted out “I ’avent got a clue what’s going on.”

Released on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, Rusko’s new album is even more disorienting—in a good way. Refusing to bend to its own genre’s conventions, it plays like a mash-up of every major dance movement of the last 30-plus years. “Feels So Real” warps a disco beat. “Kumon Kumon” is a straight-up jungle track. “Rubadub Shakedown” chatters like reggae, then downshifts into a funk groove. “Got Da Groove” dabbles in hip-hop, with vocals from ubiquitous Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. “Do U Wanna Have A Party” delivers a crushing bass drop and a quacking duck.

Rusko is big on unexpected sound effects; he also implements laser guns and shattering glass and the telltale squawk of a connecting fax machine. But the glue that binds the album is that signature dubstep beat, which takes on a surprising number of forms and conjures an unexpected array of emotions. It can underpin a diva, as it does for Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman on “Hold On.” But it can also do what it does late in the album on “You’re On My Mind Baby”—pulse way down in the mix, a low thrum holding steady like an idling engine, ready at any moment to crank up.
