Rufio - Anybody Out There [2010] [Album]

California punk band Rufio has not released a full album in over 5 years and in 2007 they even played a farewell show thinking their project was going to be over. However, they released The Loneliest EP and their comeback album Anybody Out There is set to release July 27th. I got sent the album from Universal Music Group so I got a chance to listen to it.

The album is what you would expect from a good pop punk band; high energy, simple catchy lyrics, easy to sing along with melodies. Since their last album, they have replaced their bassist and drummer. What used to be Mike Jimenez and Jon Berry is now Taylor Albaugh and Terry Stirling Jr.

Anybody Out there really does reflect that change. Their rhythms have slowed down a little from the face paced songs such as Countdown and Science Fiction you heard on their last album MCMLXXXV. However, its not neccessarily a negative factor about the album. I think they were aiming to create something that their target audience would love and be able to sing along with and in this, they were successful in doing so.

The first track Little World is probably the most rhythmically complicated and sets the stage. It gives you some of the old Rufio sound mixed in with what you are going to expect with the rest of the album. The next track Drunk in Love is probably one of my favourite tracks from the album, beginning with a memorable guitar lick that recurrs and catchy melody that can easily be sung along to. For power punk lovers, and teenage girls, this is the perfect album.

There are a few tracks from the Loneliest EP that have been rereleased on this album such as All that Lasts. Here is a video I found of them performing All that Lasts live:
