"This album has been a huge undertaking for me. The amount of time and money I put into this is something beyond what I would have ever thought I'd do for a solo album. But it all paid off in the end. I am extremely pleased to give you all "Into the Dreamstate" in its full form!
I have to thank Chris Vogagis of Wide Eyes first and foremost for writing the closing tracks with me, both of which I feel are the strongest material on the album.
I'd also like to thank my girlfriend Keila and my parents for being the most supportive and understanding people through all of this, all the noise I've made recording/mixing this album, and I'd like to thank Sarah Longfield, Dan Wieten, Plini, and Mark Hawkins for their guest spots. Mark stepped it up and got me a guest solo within a day and it blew my mind! Also would like to thank Chris Purvis, who came to the plate and delivered me a finished product that was far beyond what I could have done on my own! And thanks to Alex Pryle for capturing the album's title as perfectly as I think anyone could. And a very very special thank you to my friend Jan Hoeglund of 8dio for doing up the strings in the final track! His work was absolutely stellar, and I love 8dio products! Most of all I'd like to thank the Lord for blessing me with the friends, drive, and talent to accomplish this.
And of course, I'd like to thank all of my fans for waiting this out. I know I promised it in 2012, but I think you'll be happier with the final product after the long wait!"

Here is an interview they just had with Kat Harlton!
"Thanks to the guys in Elos Arma for taking their time, and thanks to Kat Harlton for hitting me up!
Three bands you would love to tour with, dead or alive?
- Well this is always a lot harder to answer just because we all love so many different groups and sounds. BUT, if we had to chose, in this particular moment in time (3:09 EST on February 21st, 2012), it'd have to be Frank Zappa, Radiohead, and perhaps Broken Social Scene, or Grizzly Bear! there, we gave you four.
Who are your influences?
- Well in a nut shell, as cliche as this sounds, everything influences us. Every one of us has a very particular taste, but we all relate in our love for bands such as Local Natives, Broken Social Scene, Grizzly Bear, all of Radiohead's works, to even bands like As Cities Burn (Son, I loved you at your darkest).
We're also very influenced by what was happening in jazz in the 50s & 60s, not to mention current as well (Aaron Goldberg, Robert Glasper). But focusing back on what ties us together, is our love for heavy sounds, and this is coming out in our music, specifically and our new release set for this coming spring. Heavy bands such as ACB, Fall of Troy, The Bled, ETID. aside from musical influences, Gustav Klimt has been an influential visual artists for us.
What's your thoughts on the music today?
- Well Mainstream still sucks; it didnt always suck. It's great that the advent of the internet and portable walkmans have allowed people to disconnect and create niche listening; just look around the net and you'll see how much stuff there is out there.
That aside, we see music today almost in a sort state of restoration after a 'great depression" of musical disappointments. And this restoration is not happening on the radio - its on the internet; the medium by default. Particularly in Toronto, aside from one rock station, there isn't any other alternative. Then again, you can't base ad revenues around music that is not neutral, and diluted.
In the era of shitty electronic music, a more personable and heartfelt spin is surfacing, and we feel that we're carving out our own place within that. There is a growing wave of discontent worldwide among people, for the soulless mainstream mass entertainment being spewed out at us. We think this will change, once the stranglehold on the baby-boomer generation dwindles down (as they become extinct, for lack of a better word), and this will give way for change - how that change will appear, we have no idea. BUT, Elos Arma will be there during.
The collaboration of instruments abroad make this 'surfacing spin' much more diverse; the best thing about being an artist nowadays is knowing that no matter how far you get you will still come across an instrument and have no idea what it is. All one can do as a musician, is strive to become a master of his/her instrument, so as to develop their voice and be remembered/known for what they sound like when they play. This is a necessity in jazz. So in all, we are hopeful for music!
What's your all time favorite album?
- Hmm, well this is difficult so we're goin to give you two! Radiohead - OK computer & The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium.
Any books or movies that inspires you and your music?
- The Alchemist is a definite inspiration; put everything we're trying to do in perspective for us. As for movies, The Beatles' yellow submarine (of course, when, you know), Donnie Darko & Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Do you have anything exciting coming up in the near future?
- We have a very exciting 2012 planned. Our new release will be ready for the spring, and we are accompanying it with a whole lot of tours; we will be touring the southern Ontario circuit from March 29th - April 6th, going out to western Canada in July and will be crossing the pond in September as a supporting act throughout the UK, Scotland, Germany and Switzerland. So quite the exciting future for us."

Matthew Hemerlein - Live on Big Ugly Yellow Couch!

Known for his vibrantly creative Solo Looping Show, Matthew Hemerlien’s music is an original blend of classical and pop that ultimately falls into a category of its own. Fluent on six instruments, including the violin, cello, seven-string guitar, mandolin, piano, and upright bass, Matthew crafts tightly woven pop songs from soaring layers of strings punctuated with complex beats and undeniable melodic hooks. After contributing to fellow DC mastermind Nacey’s remix of La Roux’s ‘Bulletproof’ for Diplo’s Major Lazer x La Roux Lazerproof remix project, Matthew was featured on The BBC World News regarding his work as an Artist/Educator. He has performed with the likes of Scott Matthew, Junip, The National, Coco Rosie, Peaches, James Vincent McMorrow & Local Natives and played at such venues as The House of Blues New Orleans or SXSW in Austin and headlines a wildly popular monthly show at The Gibson Guitar Artist Showroom.
“Matthew Hemerlein has the chops and is not afraid to play around with them, plucking here, strumming there, whatever he has to do to achieve goose bumps – first his own, then his listeners.” – Washington Post

Alexander - Alexander [2011.CD.V0] HoTT
Alexander Ebert, lead singer of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, will be releasing his debut solo album Alexander on March 1st via Community Music (Rough Trade will release the album in Europe on February 28th). The album will include ten brand new songs that Alexander wrote and composed entirely himself. The track-list for the album can be found below. During breaks from touring with the Zeroes over the past year, Alexander began building and recording the pieces that would become the songs for this album alone in his bedroom. Before this album, all of the music he worked on had been collaborative, especially with the 10-person Magnetic Zeroes. "I wanted to be able to build an album basically with my hands, like building a house by myself," Alexander remarked of his inspiration for making this album without outside help. There isn't a single sound on the ten-song album that Alexander didn't perform himself. Alone in his room, he had his guitar, a Lowery organ he picked up at a St. Vincent's thrift store in Los Angeles for seventy bucks, a clarinet he used for the bridge on the record's first single, "Truth," and a violin he'd found somewhere in Tucson on tour. He had his own voice, his breath, his knees to slap, his fingers to snap and his toes to tap. When he knew that he wanted to use a violin on the bridge of "Glimpses," he had an urge to call a friend to come play it for him, but then questioned why he wouldn't try it himself. Says Alexander, "To me, it's a very humble album with sky's-the-limit sort of qualities, and so I didn't really shy away from doing whatever I felt like doing." As for the music itself, Alexander explains that some of the inspirations for the "mouth sounds" that you can hear throughout the record were from all-time-favorites of his like the 1970 chart-topping ditty "In The Summertime" by British band Mungo Jerry. He also notes that children's clapping games like Patty Cake and infectious and optimistic Disney tunes like "Zip A Dee Do Da" served as loose inspirations for him. Alexander will play select shows before returning to the studio to complete work on the upcoming second LP from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, which will be released later this year.

Lots of bangin' beats and old-school video game samples. This really rocks, but the downside is that the songs are quite short... almost like the Anal Cunt of chiptune. The short track length works in the sense that it keeps the listener wanting more, and the rapid succession definitely keeps things interesting. If you're looking to hear some bizarre tunage, this will certainly do the trick! 7/10
